it’s all in the details: a pirate party

First things first. This post is picture overload. But, since I am a picture overload kind of girl {I love to see every aspect of everything} you get to experience this party as if you were actually here. And, I can bet that by the end, you WISH you could have been here! :)
Preston wanted to have a Pirate theme for his birthday party. For the past couple of months, it’s been on my mind, but it wasn’t until the past 2 weeks that I have been racing to get everything ready. I really wanted to use a black, red, and white color scheme. I found quite a bit of inspiration online, and threw in a few of my own ideas. I really like how it all came together.
A few things that I need to remember for next time: Send Ben out for the day with the kids. There is nothing like trying to decorate for a party when the kids are right under my feet—or else undoing the cleaning that I am doing. Plus, I think it would have been more of a surprise for Preston if he would have come home to seeing the decorations, not them going up throughout the day.
IMG_4633I am in love with the mini pennant banner I made for the cupcakes. Too cute!
IMG_4643Red, gold, and chocolate candy. Yummy!
IMG_4648Mini pennant banner matches big pennant banner. Love it!
IMG_4637Ruffled streamers. I am in love with them.
IMG_4646Even the mirror gets a banner. Love the polka dot streamers.
IMG_4642How is it that my scentsy warmer even matches?
IMG_4664Each pirate had a sash, head band/ kerchief?, pirate teeth, earring eye patch, and a goody bag filled with chocolate coins, tattoos, rings, beaded necklaces, compass, spyglass. You know, the essentials.

IMG_4669Berry fruit punch with strawberries and blackberries. {You gotta have matching fruit, right?}
IMG_4636Oh, how I want to stuff that entire cupcake into my mouth right now. Darn dairy!

IMG_4659Every pirate needs a pirate cake. Isn’t that the most adorable cake EVER? Seriously, my mother-in-law made it. And she’s a genius! It turned out PERFECT!

IMG_4661The cannon shooting out of the cake had candles in them. Seriously, too cute!
IMG_4711Arrgg, walk the plank, mateys!
IMG_4720Cannon balls for the cannon ball fight. Needless to say, one team got SOAKED from 25 cannonballs. The other team? Lets just say their 25 cannonballs hit the ground.

Well, there you have it. The details of the party. I’ll post the pictures of the “FUN” tomorrow. It really turned out awesome, and I think the kids had a blast. I didn’t get any pictures of the food: fresh fish {what every pirate eats, right? It was caught 2 days before by my husband. It was spade fish—caught by a spear. You know, when he goes diving in the water and spears the fish? Doesn’t get any more pirate-y than that, right?}, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and fruit. Yummo!
Inspiration found: here, here, here, and here!
