I’m the Mom you see when you are out and about and causes you to think, “Man, is she crazy?” My second attempt at an outing by myself with all 4 kids didn’t turn out as well as my first attempt. Granted, the first time we ventured out was to the park on a semi-warm day without anybody else to bother us. Piece of cake, right?
I’m not quite sure why I thought it would be a good idea to the library today. On this rainy day. When Paisley woke up cranky. With swollen eyes and a runny nose. A sure sign of allergies. Did I mention it is now springtime? Nice! For everyone but Paisley. So, Paisley is cranky. And I really want to get out of the house. I choose the library. The boys are ecstatic. How can I not go to the library now that the I know the boys are excited to get books.
I reminded the kids about the library rules: what kind of voices do we use in the library? We are good to go. Everybody holds hands. Parleigh is in the sling, much easier to carry her in than the carseat, especially with 3 other kids. As we are crossing the parking lot, I am reminded of a family of ducks all in a row. This is where I am sure the thought crosses peoples minds, “Man, is she crazy?”
We made it inside. The kids start picking out books. Lots and lots of books. 17 books to be exact. I wish I could pick out 17 books. I don’t even know where to start….plus, how do I pick out books with 4 kids in tow? Anybody want to recommend some books? Next time I go, I’ll go by myself. Note to self.
Parleigh slept the entire time. Parker and Preston did a “yell whisper” most of the time. And Paisley threw at least 5 tantrums. The throw-myself-on-the-ground-and-kick-my-legs-and-scream tantrums. What happened to my sweet little Paisley? Oh yeah, she’s two years old and feels sick and frankly, she’s having a bad day.
But I didn’t yell. And we got the books checked out. And we made it back to the car. I did it! I semi-successfully went out in public with all 4 of my kids who are 5 years old and younger and we survived! :)
Paisley with her swollen, watery eyes and runny nose. You KNOW she feels miserable!

As I am typing this, the ice cream truck is diving down the street. Ah, I can’t wait until much warmer weather. Beth, remember this from last summer?
You are SO not crazy. you're a mom. and a FABULOUS one!!! I bet your kids will love you and tell stories about 'going out' with the family, and checking out more books than they could carry. (Please tell me you had a bag for all the books! LOL!)
ReplyDeleteThe library is an outing for ANYONE. WHY do they always have to whisper? Kids can't whisper?!?! LOL! JK. I know they can, and should.
Glad you found success, even though Paisley looks utterly miserable!
looking at paisley's pictures made my eyes start to water and my throat start to scratch....allergies by proxy...thanks
ReplyDeleteI would never think you are crazy. You are such a strong person and I look up to you so much
ReplyDeletehaha i love your blogs, I really do. You are quite a woman to have 4 kids under age 5. and a great great mom! and so great at everything else too, I dunno how you do it. My friend just recommended a book she loved to me.. i forgot the name but when I ask her I will tell you for sure :) I think I am gonna try and read it this summer on top of all my 15 credits of classes.. yay! (not really yay!)
ReplyDeleteSo I have some books to recommend and a way to pick them up. The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith...there are like 7 more books. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale and there are 2 more in that kind of series. So here is how you go get them. Get on the computer, log onto VB library, Find the books, put them on hold and for pick up at your library at the drive up window! You don't have to get out and you can return them through the drive up as well! If you want to browse inside just have them put on hold and you can pick them up inside. They email you when they are ready to be picked up. It is so nice when you don't want to go in. Debi
ReplyDeleteCrazy.....more like amazing. I have a hard enough time with my 2 kids under 5!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are too sweet! Not that I was fishing for compliments, but I do appreciate your kind words! A lot!
ReplyDeleteJill--I totally pictured you every time i looked at Paisley with her puffy eyes.
Debi--Nice. You think the librarians would like picking out 17 random children's books for me next time! Just kidding...I wouldn't do that to them. But, I will have to do that for MY books! :)
