You know that I’m a purger. I get rid of everything. Probably too many things. I am constantly organizing, getting rid of, giving away stuff. Which, I don’t think is necessarily a bad thing. My rule: if I haven’t used it in a year {and it’s not a “seasonal” item} it’s GONE!
I do have a few exceptions. Pictures {as long as they aren’t of me from the period I refer to as “the dark ages”. I got rid of those. Don’t hate! I don’t need pictures to remind me…and I don’t need you remembering either!}, letters, a few papers of “artwork” from the kids.
Among the things that I have kept in my “treasure file” is a birthday card I got from my friend that I got on my 13th birthday. I’m not sure the reason why I kept it. I rarely keep anything. I don’t know if it was because I was finally a teenager, and this was monumental? I don’t know if it was because I actually got it from a friend, something that was a rollercoaster for me my entire youth! {The rollercoaster part meaning having friends. It was a constant up and down ordeal. Uggh!} Anyway, back to my card.
Ginger and I were from Chesterfield. We weren’t considered “townies” {I don’t think we ever used that term. But I am now. Cause I’m cool like that!} She was one of my closest neighbors. {4 miles away!} Some times I would ride my bike to her house. Sometimes she would come over and jump on our trampoline. {And almost break her neck. Remember that?} I remember her getting a CD, darnit, I can’t remember their names! We were swooned by them. We wrote a letter to them, but I don’t think I ever sent it off. {Help me out here, Ging, do you remember?} Random, sorry! I remember playing basketball in her backyard, {and having a huge crush on her older brother. Ha!} I remember long talks on the bus rides home from games. I remember cheerleading in Jr. High! {Holy cow, what fun!}
Ginger was one of the most easy-going girls I knew. She’s was always calm, always there, and always super sweet! She’s always been talented, cool, and so much fun!
It’s crazy to think back to “those days”! It seems so long ago. And it’s been forever since I’ve seen her! {Living clear across the country is sometimes SO inconvenient!}And, since Ginger is not on facebook {gasp!} I have to give a shout-out to her here. On my blog. Because that’s how I roll!
Why am I giving her a shout-out, you ask? Because TODAY is her 28th birthday. It seems like yesterday we were “pre-teens!”
Happy Birthday, Ginger! I hope you have a WONDERFUL day! You deserve it! Thank you for being my friend, all those years ago, when I really needed one! You really are amazing!
Awww that is so cute! How fun to find something so long ago! I throw a lot away too, but it is fun when you've actually kept something. It's fun to read what the "thinking" of a "pre-teen" is! So hilarious! Love it! And Love good friends! ;) ♥
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!!! I love it! Happy Birthday, Ginger!
ReplyDeleteYou should never throw away pictures! Even if you think they are bad because maybe one day your children will need to a.)have someone help them through a hard time. b.) allow them to have a good laugh. I agree with you though, I love getting rid of stuff!!
