Coincidence?

Take a close look at these pictures. What do you see?

Wanna know what I see?

*A 7 1/2 week old baby completely relaxing in a swing for what might possibly be the first time.

*A 7 1/2 week old baby who is not being held, rocked, or patted.

*A 7 1/2 week old baby who is content.

*A 7 1/2 week old baby who is allowing me to cook dinner without the sound of her constant cry.

Check out those rolly thighs! And the chubby cheeks! And the kissable lips! I just want to squeeze her!

And yes, I do see that her outfit is practically not even on her. Her onesie is not buttoned up. Her diaper is most likely full. But, to me, she looks extremely relaxed, and it almost makes me get a little teary eyed just thinking about it.

For the past month, Parleigh’s crying has been getting progressively worse. {It seemed to pick up around the time my mom left….since we didn’t have an extra hand to constantly hold her.} We contributed it to mild colic, since that is what Preston had. Preston’s peaked around 6 weeks, and with the help of Gripe Water, went away really fast. We’ve been waiting for Parleigh to “peak” so we can get a good nights rest and a moment’s peace during the day. {And, it’s not that bad. I mean, you kinda get used to it after a while, and I know it could be so.much.worse.}

My friend suggested that it might be that Parleigh has an allergy to the dairy that I am consuming and passing on to her through my breast milk. Apparently it takes about 2-3 weeks for the milk protein to get out of my system completely, but we should be able to see results in just a couple of days. I decided to give it a try, to give up dairy for at least a week until we go in for Parleigh’s 2 month check-up. If it is an allergy—that is one week under my belt. If it isn’t, after the appointment, I am going to have a dairy feast! :)

That was on Friday. I’m already seeing results. Parleigh is sleeping more. Less cranky. Less fussy. More relaxed. And asleep.

So, we’ll see. Is it a coincidence that she is a completely different baby since I cut out dairy 4 days ago? Who knows. All I know, today was a lot of fun with a happy baby.

  1. Little Parleigh is looking pretty relaxed. Are you sure you only cut out dairy products? I hope each day gets better and better. You and Ben have nerves of steel. God Bless you both :)

  2. Awesome! I'm so happy that you have a little respite. I know it can be very frustrating and nerve wracking. If it really is as *simple* as cutting out dairy, well then, heck. Who needs dairy, right? You need your sleep much more! :) Let us know how it goes, but in the meantime, enjoy those little moments of quiet. You deserve it!
